Kiwavi is the alias of musical chameleons Hayato Simpson and Emily Sheppard. By day, they are professional violinists, members of the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra and ensembles that have toured throughout Australia, Europe and Asia. By night, they are sonic adventurers. Their sound is crafted in real time, with live manipulation of acoustic sounds through modular synths. They blend disparate worlds of classical music with elements of live industrial techno, quirky breaks and cerebral trip hop. Kiwavi debuted at Dark Mofo’s Night Mass in 2018, and have been featured performers at Beaker Street Festival in 2019–2021.
